In June 1962 an escape was successfully carried out from the most notorious prison in America, Alcatraz…

In June 1962 America witnessed an escape from Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary in San Francisco Bay, this was successfully carried out by inmates afpFrank Morris, John Anglin, and Clarence Anglin. Morris and the Anglins successfully carried out one of the most intricate escapes ever devised, on June 11, 1962. this was achieved because behind the prisoners’ cells in Cell Block B, there was an unguarded three-foot wide utility corridor.

The prisoners chiseled away the moisture-damaged concrete from around an air vent leading to this corridor, using tools such as a metal spoon soldered with silver from a dime and an electric drill improvised from a stolen vacuum cleaner motor. The noise was disguised by accordions played during music hour, and the progress was concealed by false walls which, in the dark recesses of the cells, fooled the guards.

Now did they swim to freedom, as everyone suspected, or did they find out about the secret tunnels under the recreation courtyard ?

or did no one notice that a film in the 1990’s uses these tunnels to save America ? or was it this film that decided the archaeologists need to have a look ! oh well, the photos are worth looking at anyway…
