Pump Action Spray Bottles, fill with plain water or use with a mild detergent solution;

These Pump Action Spray Bottles have become really poplar, thumb operated and easily  fits into the palm of your hand, they  help to reduce the damage to your finds, out in the field, most people who find things on a regular bases are by nature “curious” otherwise you would not be using a metal detector or out there treasure hunting…

So what are the benefits of using these little spay bottles, mostly as suspected these spray bottles spray a small amount of water, or a water based detergent solution onto the find, whether it is a coin or artefact, this fine mist that is produced, gives just enough moisture to gentle take away the surface encrustations like soil, vegetation, clay etc… minimising any scratches on a coin or artefact, vigorous rubbing should be avoided out in the field, as this spray bottle method is just as a confirmation tool and to clean the item to see exactly what you have…

These bottles are not an instant answer to restoring the find to its forma glory, but used carefully enough the found item could benefit from a quick clean, to ascertain any damage, dates, or just simply to quell the curiosity…

The Spray Bottles that are supplied from  muddyheritage.com are what is commonly known as “Foaming Spray Bottles” and fits into any finds pouch or dedicated pocket, if your using a mild detergent in the bottle it produces a small amount of moist foam, which cleans silver coins remarkably well to the point of an ID, being made out in the field, or at least a date on a coin should easily be ascertained… as most of us know gold is gold and does not need much to bring it back to its former glory, but beware do not attempt to do any cleaning in the field if there are stones present, whether they are precious stones or not, the item is best not to be cleaned out in the field, in fact I would go as far as to say put the piece of jewellery whether it is a ring, necklace etc; into a bag that can be sealed and kept separate & away from any other recovered items in the finds bag, no matter what the age of the piece there is a strong possibility of the stones being loose, and then whilst transporting the piece of jewellery home, if the stones do become detached from the piece they will be contained in the poly bag and not lost in a finds pouch or secure pocket…

As a summary, these “Spray Bottles” offer a small or larger quantity’s of misted water onto an item as an “in field” first step, allowing the item to benefit from a quick clean, before making a decision as to your next step…

Any cleaning method without a fluid could cause abrasions not visible to the naked eye, it is these scratches that need to be kept to a minimal amount…
