Bottles…

One of the most endearing aspects of Treasure Hunting has got to be collecting bottles, there is something about a bottle whether its the shape or feel of the bottle itself, plus those that never thought of collecting bottles, will take an old bottle home if they found one…

Many bottles are found singularly in streams, hedgerows old sheds etc; but one of the best places to look for old bottles is in a rubbish dump because many of the community rubbish sites are now well over one hundred & sixty years old, but some of the most prolific rubbish dump sites are the sites where the rubbish was bought in from towns & cities many miles away, & even to this day are still quite isolated, from human activity, & has never been dug…

From all of the rubbish in a dump, it seems that pot lids & bottles are the favorites to find, it is also these two that can age a dump site more accurately than any other item, as each layer of rubbish can produce a dateable source through these items…

Apart from there shape, bottles can be easily identified by being embossed with there company names, or a particular shape to the top of bottles etc. other names & / or marks stamped or written on bottles are all a good indication of their age…

Below is some important attributes which will help to age a bottle, & will also help with identification…
